This is where i will be CHRONICLING my travels over the next several weeks. It’s partially for me, partially for you. Hopefully, we both find enjoyment in it.

Chapter 3

Today is Thursday! You know that means?! Toffee Crunch day at Georgetown Cupcake!

But first. Breakfast. This morning we decided to try out a bagel place around the corner called Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company. It was a legit NY bagel place with fresh bagels and a whole lot of spreads/schmears/cream cheese or what have you that I would never let near a bagel of mine, but a couple that I would. This was about breakfast, though, so the order was a plain bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese.

It turned out to be much larger than I would have guessed. It kept me full for hours, especially because it was immediately followed by…

Georgetown Cupcake! This is a non-negotiable, mandatory stop on a New York trip. At least, it is on a Jared NY trip.

The menu consists of some regular flavors available every day, but the selection is augmented by other flavors that change on a daily and monthly basis. The best cupcake there, their Toffee Crunch cupcake, is only available on Thursdays. It has a “toffee-infused” frosting and toffee pieces baked into the cupcake. It was just as good as it has been every other time I’ve been there. I also got another favorite of mine, Peanut Butter Fudge, a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting and a fudge filling and drizzle.

Today was also my first two-show day of the trip (Katrina saw two shows on Wednesday). For some reason, the new musical SpongeBob SquarePants had a random Thursday matinee this week, apparently not a normal occurrence for them. We took advantage of it though to give us one more show slot during our trip. I really enjoyed the show a lot. It was WAY over the top in all of the best ways, seemingly intentionally so. I hope it was intentional. I think that they did a particularly good job of translating the cartoon characters into stage versions played by humans. There were lots of SpongeBob in-jokes, but plenty to laugh at even if you’d never seen the cartoon. It’s definitely a highlight of the trip so far for me.

We did decide to do dinner in between shows, because the alternative was going from cupcakes in the morning until late tonight without a meal. I still probably could have done without it, because that breakfast sandwich was so substantial. We went to Dos Caminos. We’ve been there before, but I didn’t particularly care for my Dos Enchiladas dish this time.

(Also, we stopped in briefly at Grand Central Station. It was fun because neither Katrina or I had been back there since our respective first trips to New York City.)

Then it was off to our next show - Mean Girls! I had a hard time connecting with this one at first, but it gradually pulled me in. It featured a favorite actress of mine, Taylor Louderman, as the superlative mean girl, Regina George, and she rocked it. There was a lot of great, really energetic choreography and interesting use of a completely LED background. You can kind of get an idea of what the LED screens were like in the blurry background of this image:

By the end, I was definitely on board and really enjoyed it. Then, we got to meet Taylor for a hot sec at the stage door. We had tried to meet her before when we saw her at an off-broadway show on a previous trip, but she didn’t come out to sign. This time was a win, though.

The only other thing worth mention for the day is that I tried Insomnia Cookies. They are a company cookie open late into the night that delivers cookies and/or ice cream and/or other things (that sounds like a euphemism, but it isn’t). It has come highly recommended to me from friends who went to college in the Midwest, so I'm really glad to have an opportunity to try it out. Once we were back at the apartment, I decided that I was missing dessert in my evening, so I looked them up and put in an order. The delivery guy met me at the door to our building less than 20 minutes from when I completed the order with a box of still warm cookies. It was a nice end to a good day.
